Saturday 28 Nov first team training

On Saturday, Jack, Cindy, Mike, Karen, Anthony, Lucas, Jasmine, Zylan, Avery and Kiara all came out to join me in the training session.

The children did a mix of skateboarding, cycling and running with each other, while the adults walked.

Target on this day was 15km however as we only had a 1.5hr window to train, we only managed to fit in just over 7kms in that timeframe. But the general concensus was that we were reaching our limit without a break!

This does give us an indication that for the actual 21km walk, we're going to likely need to break it into 2x 2 hour sessions in order to complete the 21km.

This was the only team session we managed to fit in. Next time we're meeting again will be for the actual walk, and some of us will do it on Friday, the rest join on Saturday.

Getting closer now!

Thursday 26 Nov-longest walk yet

Thursdays training plan required me to walk 75 minutes....... And I wanted to see if I could do it in one go. I had walked so far from home that it ended up being an 84 minute walk but towards the end, my legs were getting so tired I was walking an average speed of 3.85km/hr instead of 5.5km/hr

My very first day of training

24th Nov was the first day I started my training. 90 minutes of walking based on the training plan, when I haven't exercised much, was daunting, but my sponsors have already helped me almost reach my goal of $250 within 24 hours so i was determined to make sure I achieved the plan.

The first walk in the morning netted me 69 minutes, 6.5kms and 8662 steps. My second walk in the evening gained me an additional 30 minutes, 2.9km and 2557 steps.

With my incidental walking across the day, I've managed 136 minutes of exercise and 11kms, close to 11k steps.

It's been a good day, I felt great, and even scored a massage from the hubby in the evening for my weary muscles.

In memory of Gary Koh, and in honour of those living with or have overcome cancer Deanna Teo, Kate Holbery, Robert Holbery, Beatrice Devadesan, Kathryn Tilley - and anyone else facing cancer

I’m shining bright for people facing cancer and walking 21km over one weekend with Walking Stars.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my walk, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
