My “oldest” friend, Angie

I first met my beautiful friend Angie when I was five, in grade prep at St Mary’s Dandenong. Everyone that was in our grade knew Angie, as she had, and still bears the brightest of beaming smiles.  My earliest memory of her was my McDonalds bday party. Being a January baby, the party was in the peak of summer, a 40 degree day and I remember Angie racing out to the McDonald’s playground and up the stairs to the slippery slide only to come swirling down screaming with what I thought was excitement - only to find she was actually screaming because she burnt her bun from the hot slide!!  Needless to say, every time I hang out with Angie, it’s always an absolute scream. She really is the life of the party and has a unique way of bringing people together. This walk is a testament not only to her ability to get people on board to support a worthy cause, but more so her determination to walk 21kms in the midst of undergoing treatment, to raise awareness for this worthy cause and raise funds to support much needed research. 

So I’m also taking on the 21km Walking Stars challenge this December – it’s going to be one special night to make a difference!

Did you know that 1 Victorian is diagnosed with cancer every 15 minutes? From the moment that person hears the words ‘you have cancer’, their life will never be the same again. The emotional, physical and financial toll of a cancer diagnosis is far reaching.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 people facing cancer will survive five years after their diagnosis. But there’s still so much work to be done.
